Exam Descriptions
The material in CLEP examinations is general education material, typically taken within the first two years of college. Credits granted by CLEP exams are usually the same as the corresponding course at an on ground campus. For instance if an Introductory Psychology class would grant 3 units on campus the Introductory Psychology CLEP would grant the same.

A majority of CLEP exams offer 3 credits, or units, corresponding to a semester course. However there are some that can earn you as many as 6 or even 12 credits, depending on your chosen college and CLEP score.

What's it like to take a CLEP exam?
All CLEP exams are administered by computer. Each exam is 90 minutes long with the exception of English Composition with Essay. The essay section of English Composition must be completed in 45 minutes with 45 minutes allowed for the 50 multiple choice questions. Most CLEP exams are made up of multiple choice questions.

You should allow at least two hours to complete your testing. It is recommended that you not take more than two exams in any given day.

When do I get my scores?
CLEP exams are entirely computer based and you will receive your score almost immediately after completing your test. English Composition with Essay is the exception with results within about a month. Official results are mailed within a month of completing any exam.

What does a CLEP exam cost?
CLEP exams are just $72 to take, plus any service fees to the testing center. Service fees are generally below $20. Military service members can take the CLEP exams for free.

What CLEP exams are available?
Currently there are 34 college courses which are offered through CLEP testing. The exams offered are the equivalent to the courses students take in their first two years of college. You can use these exams to accelerate your degree completion and test out of many prerequisite and beginner-level courses.
